September brings the initial stages of the autumn transition to Weeki Wachee’s coastal waters. With slightly cooler morning breezes and changing moon tides, gamefish are actively feeding along the marsh entrances and tidal creeks surrounding the mouth of the Weeki Wachee River. Captain Gary has been tracking these seasonal movements, positioning guests along the limestone edges and shell points where outgoing tides push glass minnows and mullet out into the open Gulf. The snook bite has picked up significantly, with aggressive strikes happening on live whitebait and soft plastic paddletails fished along current breaks.Along with snook, redfish are continuing their late-summer schooling behavior, roaming the shallow flats and grass flats near the Weeki Wachee marshes. Anglers casting around the high tide line have found consistent success with live bait and weedless artificials. As water temperatures slowly begin to moderate throughout the month, the overall feeding windows are lengthening, making September one of the most dynamic times of the year to explore the shallow backcountry and coastal waters of Weeki Wachee with Reel Shallow Fishn Charters.

Redfish caught while fishing in Spring Hill FL

As summer water temperatures reach their peak across Hernando County, the early morning inshore bite along Hernando Beach has been exceptionally strong. Captain Gary and the Reel Shallow Fishn Charters crew have been focusing on the shallow grass flats and mangrove shorelines just outside the Hernando Beach residential canals. Pushing into skinny water during the first light high tides has produced steady redfish action, with fish schooling up around shaded oyster bars and shallow mangrove overhangs. Live pinfish, shrimp, and topwater lures fished right at dawn have yielded quality slot-sized redfish and healthy speckled trout in 2 to 4 feet of water.

As the sun rises and the shallow flats warm up, shifting depth out toward the nearby channel edges and deeper drop-offs has been the key to staying on the bite. Schooling seatrout, mangrove snapper, and the occasional shallow-water grouper have been active in the cooler, moving water along the channel bends. For families and anglers looking to cool off during the heat of the afternoon, the local grass flats just off Hernando Beach have also provided excellent seasonal scalloping conditions, rounding out a productive summer month on the water.

<div>The snook bite is really heating up. Snook like the warmer water during the summer months. You can target snook a few different ways, but a live green back is the best way. To catch green backs you need to get an early start. Find some grassy areas in about 5/6 ft of water right at sunrise .Use purina fish food, mix it with water until its thick like oatmeal. Slowly throw little balls of it and get the chum slick rolling infront of your boat. It usually takes about 20 minutes out of Bayport Florida to get them close to the boat. Throw a heavy 10 or 12 foor net and you should have some success. Once you have the bait of choice, start fishing the middlw of the incoming tide neae mangrove island or the rocky points. Hope this info helps. be safe and tight lines everyone.&nbsp;</div>
