Hernando Beach Inshore Fishing

Hernando Beach is a great place to experience the shallow-water fishing that makes Florida’s Nature Coast special. The area has miles of grass flats, mangrove shorelines, backcountry water and estuaries that can hold fish throughout the year.

Depending on the season, tides and weather, we may target redfish, snook, trout, shallow-water grouper and other species that call these waters home. Some days are about working the flats and looking for feeding fish. Other days may take us into protected backcountry water or along the edges of the estuary.

One of the things I enjoy most about fishing this area is that every trip can be a little different. Water conditions, tides, bait and seasonal patterns all help determine where we fish and what we target.

Fishing Around Hernando Beach

Hernando Beach gives us access to a variety of water without having to run offshore all day. Much of the fishing is done in relatively shallow water, which makes it a great fit for my shallow-running boat and the type of inshore fishing I specialize in.

Live bait is commonly used when conditions call for it, and I’ll adjust the trip based on what the fish are doing rather than trying to force the same game plan every day.

I also fish throughout the surrounding Nature Coast, including areas around Spring Hill, Weeki Wachee, Brooksville and Bayport. Where we launch and where we spend the day depends on the trip, conditions and where the fishing is best.
