Hernando Beach - Hernando, FL Flats Report on 10th Aug, 2026

As summer water temperatures reach their peak across Hernando County, the early morning inshore bite along Hernando Beach has been exceptionally strong. Captain Gary and the Reel Shallow Fishn Charters crew have been focusing on the shallow grass flats and mangrove shorelines just outside the Hernando Beach residential canals. Pushing into skinny water during the first light high tides has produced steady redfish action, with fish schooling up around shaded oyster bars and shallow mangrove overhangs. Live pinfish, shrimp, and topwater lures fished right at dawn have yielded quality slot-sized redfish and healthy speckled trout in 2 to 4 feet of water.

As the sun rises and the shallow flats warm up, shifting depth out toward the nearby channel edges and deeper drop-offs has been the key to staying on the bite. Schooling seatrout, mangrove snapper, and the occasional shallow-water grouper have been active in the cooler, moving water along the channel bends. For families and anglers looking to cool off during the heat of the afternoon, the local grass flats just off Hernando Beach have also provided excellent seasonal scalloping conditions, rounding out a productive summer month on the water.
